During the peak growing season, Bermudas will need to be mowed every 4 to 6 days, Zoysias every 7 to 10 days, and Centipede every 7 to 10 days. Bermudas and Zoysias may be cut as close as ½ inch. Centipede does best at about one inch. During dry weather, water a day or two before you mow. Never mow grass when it is suffering from drought or the lawn will be unattractive for several days. Also, never cut grass with a dull mower blade. It can leave your grass in unhealthy condition.

During the growing season, as a general rule, keeping your lawn green calls for about 1 to 2 inches of water per week. If the weather is dry, this usually means watering every second or third day. Apply only ½ inch of water at a time. Little is gained by applying more. Watering by hand seldom produces adequate coverage. For best results, use a sprinkler. If cost is a factor or the lawn is small, choose a portable sprinkler. Traveling sprinklers are a good option for larger lawns. For both types, experiment with different placements and running time to ensure the best coverage. For extremely large lawns, consider and underground watering system. It will let you water with minimum effort. Regardless of the type of sprinkler you use, if possible, try to water your lawn when the air is calm. Wind can interfere with proper water distribution. Early morning is the best time to water established turf. This time allows the grass to dry, thus reducing the risk of bacteria growth.
